His correct name is Cannes Henry Bonner born 18 May 1890, Southhampton England. He enlisted in the 25th Battalion 1st AIF on the 7 Nov 1916, but was not an good soldier deserting in the UK. His attestation papers state that he had previous military service of 7.5 yrs in the Royal Navy and it was ‘bought out’ After WW1 he married Julia Rebecca Bell (an aboriginal woman) he had one child to her. He later deserted her . (Julia Bell was to become Neville Bonner’s mother but while Neville used the Bonner surname Cannes Henry Bonner was not his father. )
